Speaker Nancy Pelosi, fulfilling a promise she made last year, has introduced the so-called “Equality Act,” which will elevate “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” rights above religious freedoms. H.R. 5 would extend such rights in federal anti-discrimination laws. Its reach will include business, employment, housing, rental, the medical industry, schools, sporting competitions, and other public accommodations. It would also impact churches, Christian colleges and organizations, as well as adoptions and foster care. Jonathan Alexandre, Director of Public Policy for Liberty Counsel, warned of the bill’s danger in a video. “In a very real sense, this bill is so comprehensive and so vast that its application will usher in a fundamental restructuring of society where sexual liberty, which is already on a collision course with religious freedom, obliterat[ing] any sound or reasonable exemption or exception to its agenda.”
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 22:11; 1 Corinthians 6:18.
PRAY: “Equality Act” stalls in Congress.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Speaker Pelosi, Please reconsider support for the “Equality Act,” as it violates constitutionally protected religious freedom.” Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 1236 Longworth H.O.B. Washington, DC 20515.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent letters to two websites demanding they stop mailing abortion-inducing drugs to women in the United States. In a letter in early March, the FDA alleged Aid Access offers “misbranded and unapproved new drugs” on its website. “FDA requests that you immediately cease causing the introduction of these violative drugs into U.S. commerce,” the letter stated. “Failure to correct these violations may result in FDA regulatory action, including seizure or injunction, without further notice.” A similar letter was sent to Rablon Healthcare. Patrina Mosley, director of life, culture, and women’s advocacy for Family Research Council, told World News she was shocked since the risks are similar to tele-abortions, which the FDA allows even though abortionists prescribe drugs after a remote consultation with the mother. “There’s not a proper determination of how far along she is in her pregnancy, [or] even if she is pregnant,” she offered.
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 24:11-12;1 Corinthians 3:16-17.
PRAY: Access to “abortion pills” is further curtailed.
ACTION: Write a postcard: ”Dear Deputy Commissioner Amy Abernethy, Thank you for the FDA’s efforts to stop dangerous mail-order abortions.” Amy Abernethy, Food and Drug Administration, 10903 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20993.

The United States is officially recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights after President Donald Trump signed an order to that effect March 25. “This should have been done, I would say, numerous presidents ago, but for some reason they didn’t do it, and I’m very honored to have done it,” Trump asserted during remarks made alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The declaration comes as Netanyahu faces a difficult re-election campaign. The President’s decision reverses 52 years of US policy. Netanyahu noted Iran is trying to set up a permanent military presence in Syria, which means holding on to the Golan is critical for Israel’s security and to thwart Iran’s designs. “Israel won the Golan Heights in a just war of self-defense and the Jewish people’s roots in the Golan go back thousands of years,” Netanyahu opined.
SCRIPTURE: Ezekiel 11:17; Amos 9:14-15.
PRAY: More nations follow America’s lead with Golan.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear President Trump, Thank you for acknowledging Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.” President Donald Trump, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20500.

Proposed legislation legalizing assisted suicide in New Mexico and Arkansas failed to advance. Despite the victories, euthanasia advocates vowed to fight on. Alex Schadenberg, who heads the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, reported that New Mexico’s HB 90 would have allowed euthanasia for psychiatric conditions, undefined “terminal prognosis,” and could be conducted by nurses, physician assistants, and via telemedicine. It was tabled after passing through two House committees. “At the time we are just a few votes shy to pass the bill,” bemoaned Rep. Deborah Armstrong, who co-sponsored the deadly legislation. “What we do have, though, is the drive and the commitment to keep building momentum …” Armstrong used the euphemism of “medical aid-in-dying” to promote the bill. In Arkansas, HB 1536 died in the House Public Health Committee after it failed to receive a motion to send the bill to the chamber floor. The bill, which was sponsored by Rep. Dan Douglas, would have provided an exemption for facilities or physicians who did not want to participate in the prescribed death.
SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 7:17; 2 Corinthians 5:10.
PRAY: Truth about physician-assisted suicide prevails.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Rep. (Armstrong or Douglas), Please reject legalizing physician-assisted suicide bills. I oppose any law that takes a life.” Rep. Deborah Armstrong, 2015 Dietz Place NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107 or Rep. Dan Douglas, 6251 SW Regional Airport Blvd., Bentonville, AR 72712.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing the government to withhold federal research grants from colleges failing to protect First Amendment rights on post-secondary campuses. Students and faculty report increasing incidents of discrimination pertaining to speeches, coursework and funding of clubs (many of them Christian) that are contrary to those espoused in current academic circles. “Under the guise of speech codes and ‘safe spaces’ and ‘trigger warnings,’ these universities have tried to restrict free thought, impose total conformity, and shut down the voices of great young Americans,” President Trump said in the East Room of the White House, adding, “We’re delivering a clear message to the professors and power structures trying to suppress dissent. …If a college or university doesn’t allow you to speak, we will not give them money, it’s very simple.”
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 12:17; James 1:2-4.
PRAY: Free speech and dialogue returns to academia.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear President Trump, Thank you for protecting free speech on university and college campuses.” President Donald Trump, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20500.

Salt & Light Opinion: On March 23, during the 2019 American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in Washington D.C., Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez announced his country plans to move its diplomatic mission in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, opening a new embassy in the Israeli capital city. Romania made a similar announcement later in the conference. This, following the United States first making the historic move of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on May 14, 2018, followed by Guatemala two days later. Other countries, including Brazil, Australia and the Czech Republic, have suggested they may also relocate their embassies to Jerusalem. The moves align with Scripture where the shepherd divides the nations as sheep from goats. Sheep nations bless Israel and the Jewish people. Goat nations are the persecutors. Pray for more sheep nations!
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 122:6; Matthew 25:32.
PRAY: For the peace of Jerusalem.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Ambassador Tábora, I thank the Honduran government for its support of Israel by moving your diplomatic mission to Jerusalem.” Ambassador Marlon R. Tábora, 1990 M St NW, Washington, DC 20036.

Pray4SafeSchools: Marilyn Jackson – President
The Pray4SafeSchools (P4SS) Campaign is a safe-school prayer movement led by students, parents, teachers, youth leaders, and volunteers. It was developed as a natural response to protect kids and schools from senseless violence. The ministry asserts praying for God’s peace, safety and protection is the missing link for safe campuses, and it is an added resource to everything already being done to prevent school violence. P4SS offers free school prayer resources, including a texting network with the goal of getting 20,000 students, parents and youth leaders signed up to pray by 2020! The text program includes free daily prayers for campus safety.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 32:7; 2 Thessalonians 3:3.
PRAY: Churches support parental rights in education.

A new California law proposed by a freshman lawmaker would require a sexual and reproductive hotline number be placed on every California student ID from ages 12-24, including students at Christian schools. AB 624, the Pupil and Student Health bill, was introduced by Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel. It tags on to a law that went into effect last year requiring the National Suicide Hotline number on all 7-12th grade school IDs, both public and private. AB 624 attempts to use that law to now require this “reproductive” hotline, which maylead many schools to use Planned Parenthood’s number. That organization gave $4,400 to Gabriel’s campaign. “Legislators failed at forcing pro-life pregnancy clinics in California to advertise Planned Parenthood’s pro-abortion message, so now they are trying to compel every school in the state to promote Planned Parenthood’s culture-destroying values,” argued California Family Council President Jonathan Keller.
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 10:2; Matthew 6:26.
PRAY: Planned Parenthood’s campus influence wanes.
ACTION: Write a postcard to your statereps: “Dear Rep. (name), AB 624 is inappropriate for student ID cards. Please vote no on this unnecessary measure.”

Three University of Florida students from the Young Americans for Freedom club were invited to the White House in March to witness a signing ceremony for President Donald Trump’s executive order withholding federal research money for colleges that violate constitutionally protected free speech. Last year, YAF sued the UF Board of Trustees over a policy restricting who can get student-activity funds. Recently, the club had two of its banners stolen in separate incidents. “It has really just been a constant battle,” Daniel Weldon, one of those at the ceremony, lamented. A year ago, a member was assaulted while putting up a poster. “A student came by and ripped them down. … He hit a YAF student’s arm and broke his phone.” UF Vice President for Student Affairs David W. Parrott called the recent banner attack a “teachable moment” for the school: “YAF had a constitutional right to hang their banner, and the university will protect their right, as well as every other student’s right, to free speech,” Parrott pledged.
SCRIPTURE: Zechariah 8:16; 2 Timothy 2:15.
PRAY: Campus free speech rights are finally restored.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Mr. Parrott, Thank you for affirming the free-speech rights of the Young Americans for Freedom club.” David W. Parrott, UF Vice President for Student Affairs, 135 Tigert Hall, Gainesville, FL. 32611.

Parents, concerned about the social and emotional aspects of an expansive school safety bill that includes mental health surveys of students, testified in a Senate sub-committee March 20 that certain elements of HB 1004 usurp parental rights. The legislation, authored by Rep. Wendy McNamara, focuses on providing ways to make it easier for schools to apply for a safety grant while expanding authorized uses for what the Secured School Safety Grant will fund. Rhonda Miller, education chair for the Indiana Liberty Coalition, noted in comments before the Senate Education and Career Development Committee is concerned schools might screen students and then hold interventions if the screenings don’t turn out the way the school wants. “Why are schools deviating from academic areas of math, English and science to delve into subjective area of feelings, attitudes, opinions habits, traits, opinions and beliefs,” Miller posed. “These areas should be left to parents and churches.”
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 54:13; James 3:1.
PRAY: Mental health aspects of the law are removed.
ACTION: Write a postcard to your staterepresentatives: “Dear Rep. (Name), The mental health and survey elements in HB 1004 are better left to parents and should be removed from the bill.”

Testimony over HB 16, a Texas bills protecting newborns from infanticide, was delayed March 25 when four representatives refused to attend the hearing, leaving the committee without a quorum. Several abortion survivors who had been invited to testify during the meeting were left to wait. A flight delay kept the fifth member from getting to the room on time. The four pro-abortion committee members acknowledged they skipped the hearing on purpose. “While some members of the Texas Legislature insist on attacking as well as offending women directly and indirectly, we will not join this charade by participating in this political grandstanding on issues which are already codified in Texas and federal law,” the four— Reps. Jessica Farrar, Yvonne Davis, Julie Johnson and Victoria Neave—proclaimed in a statement. The representatives described the anti-infanticide bill, authored by State Rep. Jeff Leach, as a waste of time and an attack on women’s “access to healthcare.”
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 10:2; Matthew 6:26.
PRAY: Texas Born-Alive bill signed into law.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Rep. Leach, Thank you authoring HB 16 to protect babies who survive abortion.” Rep. Jeff Leach, Room GN.9, P.O. Box 2910, Austin, TX 78768.
