The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted all injunctions against the Trump administration’s restrictions on Title X abortion funding, allowing the policy to be implemented while the case proceeds. A three-judge panel ruled unanimously that the new restriction—barring Title X funding from clinics that perform abortions or make abortion referrals—may take effect immediately. Organizations performing abortions or making abortion referrals will now have to do so in entirely separate buildings from those receiving Title X federal funds. “To find that the Final Rule’s enactment was arbitrary and capricious, the district courts generally ignored HHS’s explanations, reasoning and predictions whenever they disagreed with the policy conclusions that flowed therefrom,” the judges wrote in a 25-page opinion. The new regulations also allow federal funding to go to faith-based clinics that promote natural family planning or abstinence-only methods—a first for the program.
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 24:11-12; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17.
PRAY: The HHS appeal prevails in federal court.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear President Trump, Congratulations on your Title X win at the 9th Circuit, protecting taxpayers from funding abortions.” President Donald Trump, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20500.

The Department of Health and Human Services is ending taxpayer funding of medical research using human fetal tissue from elective abortions. The directive followed a year-long review by the department to, among other things, “ensure the adequacy of procedures and oversight of this research in light of the serious regulatory, moral and ethical considerations involved,” an HHS statement read. The policy change impacts government scientists working in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those working at the University of Calif., San Francisco that used the tissue to develop HIV therapies. The new regulations don’t impact existing research “during their currently approved project period.” New grants will be subject to review by an ethics board. Scientist David Prentice at the Charlotte Lozier Institute told Christianity Todaythe need for fetal tissue is overstated. “I think we labored for many, many years under an illusion there weren’t these various types of adult stem cells and tissues, or they were very limited in their abilities,” he offered. “Experiments have shown that’s just not the case anymore.”
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 127:3; Romans 13:12.
PRAY: Scientific advances render fetal tissue useless.
ACTION: Write a postcard to NIH Director Francis Collins: “Dear Director Francis Collins, I am grateful government funding for fetal tissue research has ended.” Director Francis Collins, NIH, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20892.

Israeli diplomats in D.C., led by Amb. Ron Dermer, are working to block a Senate resolution endorsing a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to a report published in early June. The bipartisan option has been drafted by Sens. Lindsey Graham and Chris Van Hollen but not yet introduced. Its pending release comes as the White House is preparing to release its peace plan for the region. The report maintains Ambassador Ron Dermer and a team of Israeli diplomats are seeking to remove two-state references from the non-binding document. The Israeli diplomats have indicated they would support a general decision that sets forth plans for talks between both sides, as long as it doesn’t commit to a “two-state” solution as a final conclusion to the conflict. The White House itself has yet to fully endorse a two-state solution.
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 41:11-12; Luke 1:32–33.
PRAY: Congress affirms Israel’s right to her territory.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Amb. Dermer, I support Israeli efforts to remove the two-state solution from a Congressional resolution.” Ambassador Ron Dermer, 3514 International Drive N.W. Washington DC 20008.

A 40-foot cross, erected as a World War I memorial, can remain on public land in Bladensburg, Maryland, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on June 20. The 7-2 ruling affirmed the nearly 100-year-old cross doesn’t violate the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. Known as “the Peace Cross,” the monument stands on a highway median and honors 49 fallen Americans. The majority argued preserving a long-standing religious monument is in stark contrast with the idea of permitting the building of a new one. “The cross is undoubtedly a Christian symbol, but that fact should not blind us to everything else that the Bladensburg Cross has come to represent. For some, that monument is a symbolic resting place for ancestors who never returned home. For others, it is a place for the community to gather and honor all veterans and their sacrifices to our nation. For others still, it is a historical landmark,” wrote Justice Samuel Alito. Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg dissented.
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 22:28; Luke 24:6-8.
PRAY: For the preservation of public crosses.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Justice Samuel Alito, Thank you for recognizing the historical significance of public crosses in your recent Maryland ruling.” Samuel Alito, US Supreme Court, 1 1st St. NE, Washington, DC 20543.

Pinterest, a social media platform specializing in home décor, cooking and other creative exploits, has banned one of the nation’s largest pro-life advocacy groups for “medical misinformation and conspiracies” in violation of its policies. The ban came after a company whistleblower disclosed that Live Action was classified as pornography, which limited its ability to share items known as “pinning.” Pinterest has 250 million monthly users. The whistleblower, engineer Eric Cochran, was also fired. “I did this because I saw wrongdoing,” Cochran explained to Fox News’Tucker Carlson. “And the normalization of censorship within big-tech companies is un-American.” Lila Rose, president of Live Action, believes they were targeted “because our message is so effective at educating millions about the humanity of the preborn child and the injustice of abortion.”
SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 27:25; John 1:3.
PRAY: Censorship ends for Christian-led ministries.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Ben Silbermann, I urge you to avoid viewpoint discrimination by reinstating Live Action to your social media platform.” Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann, 808 Brannan St., San Francisco, CA 94103.

Salt & Light Opinion:

The columnist for a popular teen magazine recently coached a teen on how to get an abortion without telling her pro-life parents, while on a different front, a long-time children’s TV cartoon introduced a couple identifying as “lesbian” into its Saturday line-up. Both happened in just a single month, offering further evidence of just how anti-family “mainstream” media has become. Teen Voguecolumnist Nona Willis Aronowitz undermined parental rights to guide life-changing decisions when she declared, “Having access to abortion should be your right, regardless of your parents’ beliefs.” The magazine routinely promotes teenage sexting and other sexual activity as acceptable behavior. Meanwhile, the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic TV show, now in its final season, debuted the “same-sex couple” in an episode appropriately named “The Last Crusade.” “My Little Pony has always been about friendship and accepting people (or ponies) that are different from you,” offered Michael Vogel, a writer for the animated series. Critics often delight in deriding Christianity for “proselytizing” at old-style stadium crusades (now commonly called festivals), but the orchestrated crusade to sexualize our teens is a serious threat to our nation’s soul.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 25:5; 1 Thessalonians 5:22.
PRAY: Christians can influence media companies.
ACTION: For a Prayer and Action meeting, review current entertainment offerings and brainstorm ways to influence your community from a Biblical perspective.

Shared Hope International:
Linda Smith – Founder and President

In 1998, then-Congresswoman Linda Smith traveled to a notorious brothel district in India where she looked into the hopeless faces of women and children forced into prostitution. The experience compelled her to launch Shared Hope International. Originally founded as an international movement to end slavery, Smith was increasingly drawn to the scourge of sex trafficking in the U.S. “We could not ignore this injustice and expanded our impact to bring hope to American women and children victimized in the commercial sex industry.” Today, Shared Hope strives to prevent conditions that foster sex trafficking and seeks restoration and justice.
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 1:17; Luke 4:18-19.
PRAY: For efforts to eradicate the global sex trade.
ACTION: For a Prayer and Action meeting, invite a local ministry that rescues victims of sex trafficking to share how to recognize the signs of trafficking and how it affects your city and region.

State: California

State Senator Connie Leyva and Planned Parenthood want to mandate through SB 24 that the RU-486 abortion-pill nightmare be dispensed at every CSU and UC health center. The bill has now moved from the Senate to the Assembly. If passed there, the final step is the Governor’s desk to approve or veto. In response, a video has been made available by the producer of the movie Unplanned to alert California citizens to what the legislature proposes to impose on the state. In the movie clip, the realistic portrayal of Abby Johnson’s chemical abortion using RU-486 is relived. She is lied to about its effect on her body (mild), becomes ill (desperately), and recognizes the consequences of her actions (grievous). Watch the video and share it with others. Warning: The video is unsettling, which is exactly the reason to stop the bill from becoming law. Through distribution of this video, the truth about RU-486 will be shouted from the rooftops: “It isn’t just a simple procedure; it’s a nightmare.”
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 12:22; 1 John 4:6.
PRAY: The truth about RU-486 stops SB 24.
ACTION: Write a postcard to your state Assembly member: “Dear Rep. (Name), “I oppose SB 24. I know the truth about RU-486: It isn’t just a simple procedure; it’s a nightmare.”

The fate of a community Cross that was erected by a secular service organization some seven decades ago to honor Pensacola’s fallen soldiers may be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which is representing the city of Pensacola, has filed a petition asking the High Court to hear the matter. In September, a three-judge panel on the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously upheld a lower court decision that the Cross violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution by being displayed on public land. The American Humanist Association and the Freedom From Religion Foundation filed suit against the Cross. Attorneys with Becket Fund maintain there is conflicting precedent involving Crosses on public land, including a pending case in Maryland. Mayor Ashton Hayward said he’s confident the city will prevail: “Pensacola is a diverse city that welcomes people of all faiths and none. The Cross is a valuable part of our history; tearing it down would needlessly signal hostility toward religion.”
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 22:8; Joshua 4:8.
PRAY: Public Crosses are protected by High Court.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Chief Justice John Roberts, Crosses on public lands have historical significance beyond Christianity and should be protected.” Chief Justice John Roberts, 1 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20543.

Assembly Concurrent Resolution 99, which pressures California clergy, psychotherapists, educators and other religious workers to normalize homosexuality and other “LGBT” behaviors, has passed that chamber and is headed to the Senate. Although non-binding, the resolution serves as a public declaration intended to influence public opinion up and down the state. Authored by Assemblyman Evan Low, ACR 99 proclaims California lawmakers have “found that being [LGBT] is not a disease, disorder, illness, deficiency, or shortcoming”; contends attempts to help a person struggling with same-sex attraction are harmful; and blames churches and faith-based counselors for the epidemic of suicides among those identifying as homosexual. Among those speaking out against the bill were pastors who once identified as “gay” but left the lifestyle after converting to Christianity. “Activists attack our efforts to care for like-minded friends by promoting dangerous counseling restrictions and stifling our free speech,” Pastor Elizabeth Woning, of Equipped to Love, asserted.
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 12:22; 1 John 4:6.
PRAY: Lawmakers cease viewpoint discrimination.
ACTION: Write a postcard to your stateSenator: “Dear Sen. (name), I vehemently oppose ACR 99 as it squashes religious and free speech rights.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law a new measure adding religion as a protected class with regard to discrimination against students and employees in Florida’s K-20 public education system. HB 741 requires a public K-20 educational institution to treat discrimination by students or employees, or resulting from institutional policies motivated by anti-Semitism, in an identical manner to discrimination motivated by race. The action followed a ceremonial bill signing a few days earlier in Jerusalem. “I’m proud to sign this bill to make clear through a bipartisan effort that anti-Semitism has no place in our state and our educational institutions will not tolerate discrimination against the Jewish people,” Gov. DeSantis promised. “I was especially proud to hold a ceremonial bill signing in Jerusalem. Florida is the most Israel-friendly state in the country and as long as I’m Governor, we will continue to stand with the Jewish community.” The bill, which also adds a definition of anti-Semitism similar to the one adopted by the U.S. Department of State, was passed unanimously in both chambers in April.
SCRIPTURE: Genesis 12:3; Matthew 5:44.
PRAY: For God’s protection over the Jewish people.
ACTION: Write a postcard to Gov. Ron DeSantis: “Dear Gov. DeSantis. Thank you for serving as a role model for children by signing the Anti-Semitism School Bill.” Gov. Ron DeSantis, State of Florida, The Capitol, 400 S. Monroe St., Tallahassee, FL 32399.

State: Texas

A rural Texas town on the border with Louisiana voted June 11 to become a “sanctuary city for the unborn.” Members of the Waskom, Texas City Council voted unanimously to ban abortions in defiance of state and federal law, despite warnings by Mayor Jesse Moore. “Most likely we will end up getting sued if this passes. It could go to the Supreme Court,” he predicted. The vote was largely preventative as the city of 2,000 has no abortion clinics. While the new ordinance prohibits any abortion clinics from opening, it does provide exceptions for rape, incest and to save the mother’s life. “We decided to take things into our own hands, and we’ve got to do something to protect our cities and to protect the unborn children,” Mark Lee Dickson, of Right to Life with East Texas, enthused. “Although I did have my disagreements with the final version, the fact remains that abortion is now OUTLAWED in Waskom, Texas!” An Austin-based attorney has offered to provide Waskom pro-bono assistance in the event they are sued.
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 44:24; Ephesians 1:3-4.
PRAY: Other U.S. cities will make similar declarations.
ACTION: Write a postcard to Mayor Jesse Moore: “Dear Mayor Moore. I thank the Waskom City Council for protecting life by becoming a “sanctuary city for the unborn.” Mayor Jesse Moore, 450 W. Texas Ave., Waskom, TX 75692.
