  • Shocking Discovery at Doctor’s Home
  • Prof Slams “Reckless” Treatment

Pro-life advocates are calling for new regulations after authorities on Sept. 12 discovered the remains of 2,246 aborted babies at the Illinois home of an abortionist who lost his medical license for shoddy record keeping, flouting state laws about waiting periods, and failing to report the possible rapes of minors. The fetuses were discovered after the abortionist’s Sept. 3 death. A subsequent search of his three former clinics, all in Indiana, also uncovered thousands of patient medical records which had been improperly stored. “He certainly was problematic in life and as it turns out, continues to present problems in his death,” Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill told reporters. U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski, who represents the area where one of the former clinics is located, is circulating a letter calling for the U.S. Attorney General to conduct an investigation, and is looking at crafting legislation ensuring “the remains of aborted babies are always treated with dignity,” adding, “We need to find out how this happened, and we need to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.”
SCRIPTURE: Exodus 20:13; Matthew 18:14.
PRAY: Lawmakers safeguard remains of aborted babies.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Rep. Walorski, I urge you to fight for federal legislation that provides dignity for the remains of aborted babies.” Rep. Jackie Walorski, 419 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515.

A psychiatry professor at Johns Hopkins University is warning against “transgender” treatment for minors, calling it “reckless and irresponsible,” and likening it to performing “frontal lobotomies.” Dr. Paul McHugh predicts there will likely be long-term implications for children allowed to engage in hormonal treatments for “gender dysphoria,” a condition in which a person’s biological sex doesn’t match their “perceived gender” identity. “Many people are doing what amounts to an experiment on these young people without telling them it’s an experiment. You need evidence for that, and this is a very serious treatment. It is comparable to doing frontal lobotomies.” McHugh speculates a link between feelings of “transgenderism” and mental health, or “wellness.” “It would explain why many of the people who go on to have treatment of their body discover they are just as depressed, discouraged, and live just as problematic lives as they did before, because they did not address the primary problem.”
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 119:66; 1 John 2:16.
PRAY: For truthful reporting on “transgender” issues.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Professor McHugh, Thank you for having the courage to speak out against “transitioning” treatments for minors.” Professor Paul McHugh, 600 N Wolfe St. #B110, Baltimore, MD 21287.

Middle Eastern nations need to fully normalize diplomatic relations with Israel, President Donald Trump declared on Sept. 24, while speaking before the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. At the same time, Trump accused Iran of trafficking in “monstrous anti-Semitism.” “Thankfully, there is a growing recognition in the wider Middle East that the countries of the region share common interest in battling extremism and unleashing economic opportunity,” Trump affirmed. “That is why it’s so important to have full normalized relations between Israel and its neighbors.” Trump’s comments come as Israel deals with ongoing uncertainty over its leadership after a Sept. 17 election failed to determine a clear national winner. A day earlier, Trump also became the first president ever to convene a meeting at the UN solely on protecting religious freedom.
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 2:7-11; Romans 9:4.
PRAY: Israel finds increased favor in the Middle East.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear President Trump, I support your UN General Assembly message urging Middle East nations to normalize ties with Israel.” President Donald Trump, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20500.

The U.S. abortion rate has dropped to its lowest level since the procedure was legalized in 1973, according to a new report. The pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, which conducts the study every three years or so, reported the rate was 13.5 per 1,000 women of childbearing age in 2017, a 7 percent drop from 2014, when the rate was 14.6. The rate was highest in 1980 at 29.3. Despite the drop, 862,320 abortions were performed in the U.S. in 2017. However, Chuck Donovan, president of the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the research and education institute of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, asserts Guttmacher ignored important, key factors accounting for the numeric drop. Among them, “American mothers are increasingly choosing life for their children, as well as choosing to identify themselves with the pro-life cause and pro-life policies.”
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 5:11; 3 John 1:4.
PRAY: Abortion rates continue to tumble nationwide.
ACTION: For a Prayer and Action meeting, invite someone from a pregnancy-care center to address your group.

The U.S. Department of Labor is proposing new rules allowing religious organizations contracted with the federal government to determine their own employment decisions. In issuing the plan, the Labor Department cited several high-profile U.S. Supreme Court rulings, including Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which determined a Colorado baker was wrongfully punished for refusing to make a same-sex wedding cake on religious grounds, and Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, in which the justices ruled a closely held family business did not have to adhere to a federal mandate on coverage of birth control and abortion-inducing drugs. “Today’s proposed rule helps to ensure the civil rights of religious employers are protected,” announced Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Patrick Pizzella, adding the rule makes “clear that religious employers can condition employment on acceptance of, or adherence to, religious tenets without sanction by the federal government, provided that they do not discriminate based on other protected basis.”
SCRIPTURE: Genesis 12:3; 2 Corinthians 5:20.
PRAY: The new Labor Department rule change is approved.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Secretary Pizzella, I support the religious freedoms of contractors and ask you to stand firm against potential challenges to the new rules.” Secretary of Labor Patrick Pizzella, U.S. Department of Labor, S-2521, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20210.

Salt & Light Opinion: While it is the policy of the Salt & Light Council to not mention political parties, their party platforms matter. As Christians, God calls us to exercise His governmental authority over our cities, states and nation: Call us Christ-O-Crats. You may have missed it, but several weeks ago, a major party made a seismic shift. It passed a resolution praising “religiously unaffiliated” Americans or, basically, voters with no faith, or any definition of faith, at all. It defined them “the largest religious group” within their party, rendering the term “religious” all but meaningless. With a stroke of a pen, they eliminated a Supreme Judge—and all people became right in their own eyes—rendering Judeo-Christian values obsolete. To stop this assault on true religious liberties, we encourage you to register to vote, and to vote Biblically. To prepare, we invite you to take a closer look at the current party platforms (See the Action).
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 22:28; Romans 13:1.
PRAY: Biblical values return to all political party platforms.
ACTION: For a Prayer and Action meeting, use our Biblical Voter platform-comparison chart to discuss how each party stands on moral issues:

State: California

A woman diagnosed with “gender dysphoria” can sue Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael for refusing to surgically remove her uterus as part of the sex-reassignment process, despite the Catholic hospital’s religious objection to performing the operation, an appeals court in California ruled Sept. 17. The Minton v. Dignity Health ruling, which overturned a lower court, pits competing legal interests against each other, elevating civil rights concerns involving “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” over the right of religious institutions to adhere to their sincerely held beliefs in the provision of services. Prominent conservative writer David French recently wrote an article noting some states are “bringing down the hammer” even though there is no evidence for denial of services, and declaring activists are using “expansive nondiscrimination to coerce religious institutions to violate their religious principles as a condition for providing charitable or commercial services in their states.” Dignity Health, which operates the hospital, has not indicated whether it will appeal the decision.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 34:11; 2 Timothy 2:24-26.
PRAY: The Supreme Court agrees to hear a possible appeal.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Dignity Health CEO Dean, I support Dignity’s efforts to protect your hospital’s religious freedom in the Minton v. Dignity Health ruling.” Lloyd H. Dean, Chief Executive Officer, Dignity Health, 185 Berry St., Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94107.

State: Florida

Attorney General Ashley Moody is challenging a proposed 2020 ballot initiative that seeks to legalize marijuana for recreational use in Florida, even as a second proposal received more than $1 million in funding. Regulate Florida, the first to file paperwork, has collected more than 89,000 signatures from registered voters, meeting the threshold required for a mandatory Florida Supreme Court review. Moody will argue to the court the 10-page constitutional amendment is misleading because it is too long. “There is no way 10 pages of the law can be summarized clearly in 75 words or less,” Moody stated. “That is why I will ask the Florida Supreme Court to seriously consider the sheer length and ambiguous language chosen by the sponsor.” Even if Regulate Florida wins the court’s approval, it would still need to collect 766,200 statewide by Feb. 1, 2020 to qualify for the ballot. The second initiative, Make It Legal Florida, is better funded and backed by some of the state’s leading medical marijuana dispensaries, but just launched its effort in late August.
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 11:14; 1 Corinthians 6:19.
PRAY: Efforts to legalize recreational marijuana fail.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear AG Moody, I oppose the legalization of recreational marijuana and support your efforts to keep it off the ballot.” Attorney General Ashley Moody, State of Florida, PL-01 The Capitol, Tallahassee, FL 32399.

State: Texas

The Texas cities of Omaha and Naples have followed the lead of Waskom, which earlier this year declared itself a “Sanctuary City for the Unborn.” The ordinances, initiated by Right to Life of East Texas (RTLET), outlaw abortion within city limits and ban the sale and distribution of “emergency contraception.” Among other things, the text asserts, “there is no language anywhere in the Constitution that even remotely suggests that abortion is a constitutional right.” The new laws, which include a “Life of the Mother” exception, stipulate the bans cannot go into effect “unless and until” the U.S. Supreme overturns Roe v. Wade. “These ordinances are not perfect, but they seek to do what can be done within the laws of the state in which we live,” Mark Lee Dickson, Director of RTLET admitted, adding it “should send a message to the state that the cities in their state have had enough of the bloodshed. It is time for the state to seriously consider bringing this holocaust to an end at the state level.”
SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 19:18.
PRAY: Cities across the country take similar action.
ACTION: Write a postcard: “Dear Director Dickson, Thank you for your work in establishing sanctuary cities for the unborn.” Mark Lee Dickson, Right to Life of East Texas, P.O. Box 9294, Longview, TX 75608.
